[Introduction:]
We’re introducing a new capability that gives IT admins visibility about controls to manage Gen AI apps within their organization. Admins can use Microsoft Edge policies or other Microsoft 365 controls to manage or block access to these tools. This will ensure Gen AI tools comply with organization's policy for data control and protection. It also helps them discover Copilot Chat—a secure, compliant, and cost-included alternative.
[When this will happen:]- Targeted Release (Worldwide): Late November 2025
- General Availability (Worldwide): December 2025
- Who is affected:
- Admins with Global Administrator or Edge Administrator roles; Tenants with Microsoft 365 E5, E3, Business Premium, and other qualifying SMB and Enterprise licenses
- What will happen:
- A new recommendation will appear on the Microsoft Admin Center (MAC) homepage
- Admins click on recommendation to learn more about managing Gen AI access in their organization.
- Admins can apply Edge policies to block non-Microsoft LLMs
- Copilot Chat will be offered as a secure, compliant alternative
- The feature is opt-in and requires admin configuration
- Confirm that your tenant has a qualifying SMB or Enterprise license
- Ensure Global Admin or Edge Admin roles are assigned to appropriate personnel
